The Science Behind Plants - Phytoplage
Summer means sun, beach, outdoor activities, and hangouts on a rooftop. It also means sweating and sunburn. So much sunburn. The damage from the sun’s ultraviolet rays is not only harmful to your skin, it will also make your hair dry, brittle, and frizzy. Since the 70’s we’ve been concerned with protecting your hair from the sun and all other external factors that comes with summer. So without further ado, here are three products from our Phytoplage summer collection that you don’t want to miss this summer.
PHYTOPLAGE PROTECTIVE SUN VEIL
A lightweight, non-greasy mist that guards your color and protects your hair from UV damage and environmental stresses is what you need this summer. It’s easily applied and it forms an invisible anti-dehydration screen, which is ideal for days out in the sun or if you just want to lounge by the pool. Calendula, Sunflower Extract, White Lotus, and Castor Oil is the killer combination. Here’s why:
Calendula
Calendula is known for its hydrating properties, which works to regenerate and restore the skin from external damage towards the scalp. It also helps with hair growth since it improves the environment of the hair follicles.
Sunflower Extract
The sunflower extract is filled with vitamins and minerals, making it an antioxidant agent. Due to its light consistency, it’s easily absorbed in the hair strands while it can penetrate all the way into the shaft. Finally, it helps protect against free radicals coming from the sun’s UV light, preventing any potential damage.
White Lotus Extract
The extract from the beautiful white lotus flower has the ability to maintain moisture and condition the hair, which is exactly the healthy boost you need when exposed to a lot of sun in the summer. It also helps with increasing volume, strength, and elasticity.
Castor Oil
The reason why we keep nagging you about treating the scalp and the hair follicles is because the shaft itself is physiologically dead. The castor oil is good because it will work its way down to the hair follicles and protect them and the new hair growing out.
PHYTOPLAGE HAIR & BODY REHYDRATING SHAMPOO
A shampoo to strengthen and restructure the hydrolipidic film of the hair follicle is the perfect cleanser to eliminate sand, salt, chlorine, and sunscreen residue after a long summer day. The ingredients Bamboo Marrow, Kukui Oil, Wood Cellulose, and Coconut Oil will together counteract the drying effects of the sun and leave the hair (and body!) moisturized and super-soft.
Bamboo Marrow
The regenerative effects of bamboo marrow makes the hair strong and shiny, and is perfect after a day in the sun. It helps relieve the brittleness and the deep hydration also has a protective and anti-aging effect.
Kukui Oil
Hair that’s been exposed to the sun is in dire need for some nourishment. The kukui oil both soothes the irritated scalp and generates a protective barrier to manage any future external damage.
Wood Cellulose
The water-binding properties in wood cellulose are good for maintaining moisture, which in turn helps detangle and restore elasticity of the hair. It’s also easily absorbed into the hair strands and treats the strands from the inside out.
Coconut Oil
We’re very familiar with coconut being a substance with many purposes, which is exactly why we needed to include it in Phytoplage. It works like a natural sunscreen for both the scalp and the hair because of its SPF level. It also cleanses and conditions your hair and scalp gently. A true miracle worker.
PHYTOPLAGE AFTER-SUN RECOVERY MASK
Look no further for the perfect hair mask this summer, Phytoplage’s After-Sun Recovery Mask was created to hydrate, nourish, and repair even the most sun-damaged hair fibers. Whether you’re in the sun, on the beach, or by the pool, the Recovery Mask will revive and rejuvenate your strands with these ingredients:
Kerarice
As you might already know, amino acids are the building blocks of protein and kerarice is packed with amino acids, which helps support the protein in your hair, called keratin. Kerarice is therefore especially effective when it comes to the sun's rays because it helps repair the internal structure of the hair.
Capuacu Butter
This butter is fairly light, yet extremely effective to add to your hair after a day in the sun. It has hydrating properties, which helps the hair absorb the water and then seal it in. It also includes some essential fatty acids to give your hair elasticity and durability so you can spend the next day in the sun too, without worrying about harmful UV rays.
Shea Butter
Like coconut oil, shea butter is also a natural SPF that protects the hair and scalp from free radicals. Since it’s rich in vitamins and minerals, it helps nourish the hair and protect it against chlorine and salt. A must-have before jumping into the pool or the ocean.
Physalis Alkekengi
Remember the keratin we mentioned earlier? The physalis alkekengi actually contains all of the 8 essential amino acids. What’s better to add to your hair (which is 84% protein) than more protein? Especially after a day in the sun. The antioxidants in physalis also helps with any sun damage that might have happened to the cells in your scalp.
There it is, a recipe for healthy and shiny summer tresses! Now, let's make the most of summer '17, shall we?
