PHYTO PARIS: How did you find out about Phyto?

JM: I first saw the brand in a pharmacy in Paris. I bought a few bottles of shampoo and took them home with me to test them out. I was working in fashion at the time, and never did I think a few months later I'd be working for the brand myself! When I met with Eric Domel, the former CEO at Ales Group, and learned even more about Mr. Ales and the beauty of this botanical brand, I knew had to be apart of it in some way.  It was a done deal. That was over ten years ago!  And even since I've left the company, I still use Phyto every single day.

PHYTO PARIS: What is your favorite Phyto product?

JM: I have to say Phytojoba shampoo! A close second is the new Phytokératine Extrême Cream.  Not only do I love the scent of Phytojoba (it transports me to the beach every time!) the formula is simply magical. It smoothes my thick naturally wavy, sometimes frizzy hair without weighing it down. And when I follow it with Phytojoba mask, my hair becomes much more manageable. As far as Phytokératine Extrême Cream, my strands drink it up!  I use a good amount of heat styling so it's the perfect option to daily condition and bring shine.

I realized I was using shampoo similar to laundry detergent stripping my hair of all its goodness. I also learned that taking care of your scalp is imperative and so helpful. Anything that you put onto you scalp enters your bloodstream so I think twice about which products I use.

PHYTO PARIS: How did Phyto change your approach to haircare?

JM: In a big way. Before Phyto, I was using a mass brand (I won't name names) but after learning more about Phyto, I realized I was using shampoo similar to laundry detergent stripping my hair of all its goodness. I also learned that taking care of your scalp is imperative and so helpful. Anything that you put onto you scalp enters your bloodstream so I think twice about which products I use.

PHYTO PARIS:What haircare routine do you recommend after a workout?

Applying Phytopolléine after (or even before!) your workout is the perfect way to purify your scalp pre-shampoo.  In my classes we definitely break a sweat so bringing on the heat opens everything up.  If you can't shampoo post-workout, I recommend applying a little dry shampoo, brushing hair then blow-dry to style. I also keep a tube of Phyto 9 in my bag (another fave.)

PHYTO PARIS: What is your haircare routine?

JM: I love a good treatment if I have the time.  I apply coconut oil or  Phyto Specific Baobab oil pre-shampoo and leave it in for at least 15 mins. Then I shampoo with my fave Phyojoba shampoo and mask, or Phytocitrus if I just got my color done.  I towel dry then apply Phytodéfrisant (and sometimes mix it with Phyto 7!) mid-shaft to ends.  I then blow dry and finish with Phytokeratine Extreme Cream and Phytolisse for added shine!  Overall, I typically wash my hair every other day. I love second day hair!

PHYTO PARIS: What do you recommend doing to your hair between workouts?

JM: Brushing it to distribute the oils, especially when you sweat.  I also throw mine up in a ponytail or top knot if it's dirty.

PHYTO PARIS:What is your skincare routine?

JM: I'm pretty simple when it comes to skincare. But I love testing new products out.  I've been using Lierac's Micellar Cleansing water pre and post workouts (love the smell!) and it refreshes skin if you can't shower post workout. At home, I use a cleanser, then apply an eye cream (Lierac's Diopticreme is an oldie but goodie) then an anti-wrinkle moisturizer (in the morning I either use a moisturizer with SPF or apply SPF before my moisturizer)  At night I use an anti-aging serum either on its own or before my night cream.  I really love using serums, especially in the summer because they are hydrating and so light!

PHYTO PARIS: How do you maintain a balanced nutrition and active lifestyle?

JM: I do my best to nourish from the inside out. I'm always on-the-go so I need to pack healthy options like fruit and almonds.  I'm also obsessed with smoothies. In NYC my go-to is Liquiteria. Their Green Monster is my favorite - I  also add spinach. I usually grab one before I teach a double (two classes in a row).  They know me at the West Village location!  I also love a good make your own chopped salad. When I'm home, I try to test a few different smoothies out.  Barre3.com has an awesome recipe index with a ton of whole food recipes and smoothies. I don't always love to cook, but I try my best to make it healthy and balanced.

PHYTO PARIS: How does your current active lifestyle affect your approach in beauty?

JM: I've had to learn how to adapt to a new beauty routine pre or post sweat sesh!  It's very different than when I used to work full-time in the office.  I definitely need to cleanse more to make sure I don't break out or wash your hair sometimes more often so it doesn't get oily.
