5 Women Who Are GOALS

At PHYTO we love seeing women absolutely crush it. With International Women’s Day approaching, we thought we’d share a short list of spectacular women who are all making an impact on our society and our world.

Janet St. Paul is a force to be reckoned with in the hair industry. In addition to being named a Top Rising Star by W Magazine, she has rubbed elbows with fashion industry superstars during New York Fashion Week such as Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta  and Diane von Furstenberg. Her client roster is also packed with celebrities like Diane Sawyer, Martha Stewart, Sigourney Weaver and Vanessa Redgrave. Her achievement of master hair stylist (which is a pretty big deal in our world) has earned her spots at some of New York’s most respected salons including Frederic Fekkai and Butterfly Studio, Kerastase’s New York Salon. Even with an illustrious 25-year career differentiated by her 3-step personal tailoring process to ensure world class treatment for every client, she has maintained her down-to-earth, New Orleans born roots.

Megan Rapinoe has won the hearts of the world many times over. The Team USA Women’s Soccer star is strong and tenacious on and off the field. In 2011 when she belted out Born In The USA after scoring a goal against Columbia in the World Cup, she showed that she had a voice and wasn’t shy about using it. In addition to commanding the soccer field with her natural born determination, she uses her powerful voice to the ongoing fight for equal rights in gender, race and sexuality. During the summers, she and her twin sister run a camp for kids where they pass down all of the values that have made her an absolute Rockstar.

Kate Williams is the CEO of 1% for the Planet, a personal favorite of PHYTO, since we are all about philanthropy. Kate works hard to drive collective action through leading a global network of businesses, nonprofits, and individuals working together to facilitate efforts toward a healthy environment. Her passion and dedication to giving back are something we stand behind and admire. She is truly driving change in our world and we couldn’t be prouder to be associated with her.

Michelle Obama is the epitome of poise, grace and intelligence all wrapped up into one incredible woman. As our first African American first lady, she showed very early that she was not going to just stand in the shadow of her husband and had her own agenda to contribute in big ways to our country. Her resume is lengthy and impressive, boasting education from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. Her career as a lawyer is nothing short of impressive and in 2009, she was even named Barbara Walter’s Most Fascinating Person of the year. Obama had many initiatives in her sight while in the White House, including advocating on behalf of military families, helping working women balance career and family, encouraging national service, and promoting the arts and arts education. She also gained a lot of well-deserved recognition for addressing obesity, through promoting good eating habits, which is one of the leading U.S. public health crises.

Greta Thunberg has more moxie than many people far older than she is at just 17 years old. While her activism started at home in Sweden, in the form of convincing her parents to make lifestyle choices to reduce their own carbon footprint, that was just the beginning for this force. At the age of 15 she was actively protesting outside her own school calling on the Swedish parliament for stronger action on climate change. Along with other students who adopted the same cause, she started a movement called Fridays are the Future. Following the 2018 United Nations Climate Change Conference, there were student run strikes every week all over the world. One of her most notable moments came at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit where she spoke eloquently and sternly. Her unwavering dedication to speaking out on climate change has already earned her awards such as honorary Fellowship of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people, inclusion in the Forbes list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women and the youngest Time Person of the Year. Plain and simple, she is a spectacular woman and is just getting started.

Five different women doing completely different things but all making a tremendous impact. Here’s to the unstoppable women of our world who are committed to using their voices and platforms to making real change. Who would you add to the list??
