We Could All Use Acts of Kindness Right Now
It’s a tough time right now. We are all adjusting to varying degrees of a new normal. But, for all of the doom and gloom you see while scrolling online or watching the news, there is still evidence of so much good. People are rising to the occasion and looking for ways to exhibit kindness and compassion on big and small scales. PHYTO is here for the kindness, so we are highlighting some of the good we see out there and even sharing information on how you can get involved.
Be a grocery fairy godmother. There are populations, like the elderly or immunocompromised, who can’t even make essential grocery runs. Check in with them before you grab your groceries and see if you can add anything to your list to help them out. Along those lines, you know all of the people who are still working full-time to make sure you have necessities of your own? Think about leaving some supplies outside for them. They’re out shopping for others all day and can’t always get to the store to grab toilet paper, paper towels and disinfectant. Pay it forward however you can.
You down with PPE? That’s Personal Protective Equipment and while it’s essential to healthcare professionals, they are facing dangerous shortages. Many organizations have stepped up to help and some are even sewing masks with their own hands. Headbands of Hope, an incredible non-profit, is donating masks to hospitals in need when you make a purchase. They have already donated 50K masks and that number is continuing to grow. Plus, when you purchase one of their beautiful headbands, they always donate one to a child with cancer.
Take care of our first responders. There are many on the frontlines fighting for our safety every day. They need items like hand sanitizer in a big way. We love seeing so many companies jumping in to help with the lack of availability and are thrilled to be part of those efforts. The Alès Group through Ducastel has launched the production of hydro-alcoholic gels, which will be distributed for free to hospitals and firefighters. We have also distributed 55 000 hydro-alcoholic gel tubes to pharmacies so that they can produce their own hydro-alcoholic gel.
Support your local salons. We know you can’t walk into your local salon right now, but there are other ways you can show support to keep their business afloat. Purchase their products from their website, but gift cards to use at a later date, make appointments for further down the road so when they open, they will have people already in the queue. World renowned stylist, Janet St Paul is selling discounted gift cards and allowing you to allocate the funds to your specific hair stylists.
There are a variety of ways to help others during this time – your neighbors, small businesses and our economy in general. We challenge you to engage in any of these above ideas or come up with your own.
Stay safe and be kind. Remember that we are all in this together.
